Redknapp: Everton must sign Sigurdsson

Jamie Redknapp believes that Everton must sign Gylfi Sigurdsson in the summer as they prepare to lose Ross Barkley.

The Daily Star claim that the Toffees are interested in securing the midfielder in the summer as a replacement for Barkley, who is unlikely to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.

The report details that Swansea value their playmaker at £30million, but Everton may be able to secure a deal at £25million as they prepare a move.

Sky Sports pundit Redknappp feels that the Merseyside club must snap up Sigurdsson in the summer to fill the void that Barkley will leave.

“Gylfi Sigurdsson would be the perfect replacement (for Barkley),” Redknapp wrote in the Mail. “Sigurdsson has great vision, assisting 13 goals for Swansea this season — five more than Barkley and second only to Kevin De Bruyne, who has 15.

“Six of his assists have been for Fernando Llorente, making the pair the League’s most lethal duo. Sigurdsson should be playing for a top team.”

Sigurdsson has been in spectacular form for the Swans this season and played a major role in keeping them in the Premier League.

The Iceland international has been an ever-present in the starting line-up and proved to be one of the most creative players in the division, despite playing for a struggling team.

The attacking midfielder has made 39 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 10 goals and supplying 13 assists in return.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman would surely love to have his attacking talents at the club and there is a real belief he deserves to be playing for a top side in the Premier League.
