Garth Crooks claims that Arsenal’s attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil would be much more appreciated at Tottenham.

The 28-year-old moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 and has become a crucial player for the Gunners.

He has been in strong form so far this season by scoring 12 goals and supplying 12 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

However, he comes under severe scrutiny from Arsenal fans at times due to his work-rate and they feel he fails to influence games as much as he should.

The Germany international is yet to sign a new deal with the club despite his contract expiring at the end of next season, with talented teammate Alexis Sanchez in a similar position.

BBC pundit and ex-Spurs player Crooks claims that Ozil would be a much better fit at his former side rather than north London rivals Arsenal.

“Is he (Ozil) in the right team? Probably not,” Crooks told BBC Sport. “A player with his talent would be more appreciated at a club like Tottenham.

“Now at this moment I may have Arsenal fans foaming at the mouth at the very thought of Ozil defecting to White Hart Lane but frankly it is a better fit. Only at Spurs will the fans accommodate players like Ozil. You see, at Spurs it is all about the football while at Arsenal it is all about the winning.”

Crooks claims that Spurs’ footballing style would accommodate Ozil much better, but Arsenal have been known to play some strong possession-based football themselves during the Premier League era.

However, Spurs are certainly the top side in north London this season and have finished above their rivals in the league.

Mauricio Pochettino has managed to bring a great philosophy to Spurs and they have secured second in the division, with Chelsea already crowned champions.

They have several talented attacking midfielders at their disposal such as Christian Eriksen, Dele All and Heung-Min Son.

Ozil has proven to be one of the most creative players in Europe during his career and the World Cup winner has become renowned as an assist machine.

He managed 81 assists in 159 appearances for Spanish giants Real Madrid and has shown the same type of quality in English football with Arsenal.

Crooks is adamant that his style would match with Spurs’, but it’s unimaginable that he would make the controversial move across north London.
