Nottingham Forest are considering a move for Rangers ace Barrie McKay, according to a report.

The Mail claim that the Championship club, who are managed by former Gers boss Mark Warbuton, are planning a move for the 22-year-old if his contract negotiations fail.

It is understood that Forest are looking at securing his services in January in a cut-price deal, when he would be entering the final six months of his contract and able to talk to other clubs.

McKay has expressed his desire to stay at Ibrox despite rejecting a new contract offer in February and is expected to hold new talks about extending his one-year deal in the summer.

“My agent spoke to the club a while ago, but they haven’t come back to us,” said McKay. “It’s up to them now.

“When they first spoke to my agent, the previous manager was still here and when they sent an offer the new manager had come in.”

McKay has been in good form at Ibrox this season and played an important role in their starting line-up.

The left winger has been fighting to establish his starting position since the mid-season arrival of Caixinha and managed to make the most of a start on Saturday.

He scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory over Hearts and scored his sixth goal of the season.

McKay has shown his creative spark throughout the year too and managed 11 assists across all competitions.

The one-time Scotland international has done well with the step up to the top flight and helped the Gers to a probable third-placed finish in the league.

McKay hopes to be involved in Rangers’ plan going forward as Caixinha assesses his squad ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Warburton will be looking to help Forest push on into the top half of the Championship table next season after avoiding relegation on the final day.

McKay is yet to experience football outside of Scotland, but could be offered the chance of an England move come January.
