Tottenham have had an opening bid of £2million rejected for Spanish goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to a report by IBT Times.

The website claims that Espanyol have demanded Spurs pay £4million if they want to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis.

Lopez moved to White Hart Lane last summer on a season-long loan from the La Liga club, but he failed to make a single senior appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The report states that Tottenham initially agreed to pay £500,000 for Lopez’ loan fee, with an option to make the deal permanent by paying £6.1million for his services at the end of the campaign.

However, it is said that the Premier League club are now looking for a cut-price fee because his contract in Spain is due to expire in 2018 and Spurs are reluctant to meet Espanyol’s demands.

The Spain under-21 international has come through the ranks at the Barcelona-based club, making 48 senior appearances for his side.

During his time in England, Lopez was forced to play backup to first choice keeper Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, with the latter utilised during cup competitions.

Despite Lopez failing to make a single appearance under Pochettino, the report does state that the Argentine is still keen on making his signing permanent.

It is said Pochettino worked with Lopez during their early days at Espanyol and he sees him as Tottenham’s number one long-term keeper.
