Manchester City are set to make a big-money offer for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, according to a report in the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Pep Guardiola is set to make a £40million bid for the 26-year-old this week as the Spaniard steps up his summer of rebuilding.

Right-back Walker saw his game time reduced towards the back end of the campaign, with Mauricio Pochettino starting him in four of his side’s last ten Premier League matches.

The report details that Walker wanted to consider his options at the end of the season and Spurs may now allow him to leave after eight years at the club.

It is said one of the reasons why Walker could be allowed to leave is because they already have a replacement in mind in Kieran Trippier.

Walker joined Tottenham in 2009 when he made a £5million switch from his boyhood club Sheffield United as he spent numerous loan spells at the clubs such as QPR and Aston Villa before establishing himself as a key member of the first-team squad.

Since Pochettino arrived at the club in 2014, full-back duo Rose and Walker, have arguably been the club’s most improved players, helping their side secure back-to-back Champions League places.

England international Walker has a contract at White Hart Lane which runs until 2021 after he put pen-to-paper on a new deal last September.
