Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has claimed Trent Alexander-Arnold has got all the attributes “to be a top player” and has a “big future” at the club.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Anfield, making 12 league and cup appearances for the first team, as well as starring for the Under-23s.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp rates the right-back highly and he was impressed by his performances in the Under-23s, which saw him score four goals and provide four assists in 12 Premier League 2 games.

Fowler is affectionately nicknamed ‘God’ by the Anfield faithful having made 322 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 148 goals in his 10 seasons with the Merseysiders.

He has been impressed by Alexander-Arnold this term and has said he has got a big future on Merseyside.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, he said: “He has probably got every attribute to be a top player. His attitude, will and drive are what we want as Liverpool supporters. He has got that in abundance.

“I can see a big future for him. Regardless of whether you’re a local lad or a young lad coming into the game, you want to do well first and foremost.

“Trent and a few of the other ones are getting chances now and we give Jürgen a little bit of credit for getting the youngsters involved, because we’re probably going to need them in a year or two.”

Alexander-Arnold has been deployed primarily as a right-back by Klopp, but he did feature in the centre of midfield against Everton in the Merseyside derby.

He has featured for England Under-16s, Under-17s and Under-18s in the past, but he has shone since stepping into the Under-19s set-up.

The 18-year-old has bagged six goals from right-back in 10 England Under-19s appearances, and he even netted a brace in the 3-0 win over Spain in the European Under-19 Championship qualifiers.

Liverpool finished fourth in this season’s Premier League and as a result will return to the Champions League next term.
