Jamie Carragher has revealed why he was unable to fit Liverpool pair Saido Mane and Philippe Coutinho into his Premier League team of the season.

The former Reds defender named his team of the year on Sky Sports and failed to include a single Liverpool player.

Carragher explained that duo Mane and Coutinho didn’t do enough throughout the entire year to warrant spots ahead of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.

The Sky Sports pundit was quizzed on Twitter about his selections and claims Mane had “a brilliant season”, while also agreeing that Coutinho had been in similar form.

However, he want for an attacking set-up of Hazard, Sanchez and Harry Kane in his best Premier League XI.

Hazard has played a crucial role in Chelsea’s title triumph this year, while Sanchez has been Arsenal’s standout player as they fight for a top-four spot.

Mane has enjoyed a brilliant first season at Anfield following his arrival from Southampton and recently picked up the club’s player of the year.

The 25-year-old winger has made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and supplying eight assist in return.

However, he has been out of action since the 1 April due to a season-ending knee injury and also missed games while participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Coutinho has been another of the top performers for the Merseyside club this year and been an ever-present in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has chipped in with 13 goals and nine assists so far this term and the Brazilian is regarded as the most technically gifted player at Liverpool.
