Lazio have joined Everton in the pursuit of Middlesbrough goalscoring midfielder Marten de Roon this summer, according to Transfer Market Web.

The Italian transfer website states that de Roon has already been tracked by the Toffees but now Ronald Koeman’s side face competition from the Serie A outfit for the Dutchman’s figure.

It is believed that the 26-year-old ace is looking to leave the Riverside Stadium, after his current side suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Middlesbrough’s number 14 only joined the Teesside club last summer for £12million from Lazio’s Serie A rivals Atalanta, and has proven his worth in the middle of the park for a side that have struggled.

Known for his box-to-box style of play and eye for goal from midfield, de Roon found the back of the net five times in 35 league and cup encounters this season as Boro finished in 19th place.

The former Heerenveen ace has three years left on his contract with Boro but could now be allowed to leave by the relegated Premier League side, as they look to cover the cost of dropping to the Championship.

The Toffees have an abundance of central-midfield options available to them, including the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Gareth Barry and James McCarthy as well as the January signing Morgan Schneiderlin.

However, de Roon could be the first addition through the gates at Goodison Park this summer, as Koeman looks to improve his squad in order to push towards the top six of the Premier League next term.
