Ex-Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit claims Arsene Wenger will sign some “big, big players” this summer.

The 46-year-old also stated the Frenchman is prepared to bust the Gunners wage policy as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

Petit joined Arsenal in 1997, and he played more than 100 league and cup games for the club during his three seasons there.

Arsenal announced that Wenger has signed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday afternoon, and Petit believes he will have a busy summer transfer window.

Speaking to the Sun, he said: “I’m pretty sure [Wenger] will break the wages policy at the club and put big money on the table to bring in big, big players for the team next season.

“I’m a huge fan of Arsene. I know what he has done for Arsenal and the Premier League and the fact he hasn’t won the league for a long time does not mean he isn’t a quality manager.”

The Gunners ended this season’s Premier League in fifth-place, finishing outside the top four for the first time since Wenger joined the club in 1996.

It was also the first time in 22 years that their North London rivals Tottenham finished above them in the table.

However, Arsenal did win their third FA Cup in four seasons last Saturday, beating league champions Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.

Wenger is expected to have a very busy summer transfer window as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Sky Sources claim the Gunners are close to completing their first signing of the summer, as they have look to have come to an agreement with KAS Eupen to sign Henry Onyekuru for £6.8million.
