Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry has revealed he has begun discussions with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy about the possible transfer of youngster Luke McGee.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has spent this season at League One club Peterborough on loan from Spurs.

Fry has explained that he has held talks with Levy about the future of McGee and expressed Peterborough’s desire to sign the youngster after his impressive loan spell.

“I went to the West Ham v Spurs match last Friday with the intention of speaking to Daniel Levy,” Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph. “We had a conversation, and while negotiating with Levy is never easy, I made our case and I hope we will speak again soon.

“I want to sign Luke on a free transfer, but I would give Spurs a huge sell-on fee. It makes sense for us and I think it makes sense for Spurs as well as, good as Luke is, he is not near their first team and I understand they will be signing another goalkeeper soon anyway.”

He added: “He’s a million per cent interested in coming back to us next season. He enjoyed his football, he got on well with the rest of the players and he enjoyed playing for Grant McCann.”

McGee was sent away from White Hart Lane to experience regular first team action, with goalkeepers Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Pau Lopez all above him in the pecking order at Spurs.

The shot stopper picked up Peterborough’s Player of the Year after his performances and he proved a big success in League One.

He made 45 appearances across all competitions this season and kept an impressive 10 clean sheets in return.

McGee only moved to the ABAX Stadium for an initial six months from Spurs, but the deal was extended until the end of the season after his efforts.

Peterborough chairman Fry is confident that the young goalkeeper is keen to re-join the club, but wages could be a potential stumbling block.
