Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Tottenham’s players deserve to be paid 100 per cent more than their current wages.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is renowned as a shrewd businessman and the north London club have a relatively low pay structure compared to their major Premier League rivals.

Levy recently warned that he is not prepared to rip up the wage structure despite the club enjoying their best season in years, where they have finished as league runners-up to champions Chelsea.

It is understood that Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris are the north London club’s top earners on £100,000-a-week, meaning several of their key players could be paid a lot more elsewhere.

BBC pundit Jenas feels that the Spurs players should be paid more than their current salaries.

“You’re dealing with players now that, I personally believe deserve to be paid probably 100 per cent more than what they are actually being paid,” Jenas told BBC Radio 5 live. “It’s about the glory, it’s about the love of the game and you want to get over that line but at some point, as a player, it is also about self-worth.”

Spurs have managed to gather a strong squad at White Hart Lane in recent seasons and manager Mauricio Pochettino has pioneered their success.

The north London club are still without a piece of silverware since 2008, but their are positive signs that they are on the brink of something special.

Pochettino’s side play their final ever game at White Hart Lane on Sunday against Manchester United, before a temporary switch to Wembley Stadium next sesaon.

Spurs will be praying they keep their key players such as Dele Alli and Harry Kane, but several people feel their tight wage structure could become an issue for their star players.
