Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack is set for a medical with Rangers in the next 72 hours as a deal edges closer, according to a report.

The Sunday Post claim that the 25-year-old will undergo a medical at Ibrox imminently as his move nears completion.

It is understood that the midfielder told Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes of his desire to leave and he has been free to discuss a move as his contract expires in the summer.

The report details that Gers manager Pedro Caixinha believes Jack will add some balance to his side and his first big summer signing is on the verge of completion.

Rangers are set for a busy summer as Caixinha remoulds his squad to help them compete in the Scottish top flight next season, with a third-placed finish this year considered by most as disappointing.

They are on the cusp of grabbing central midfielder Jack from rivals Aberdeen, who finished above them in the league in second.

The versatile ace graduated from the Dons academy and has racked up 248 appearances for them, but is now set for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

He will bring great experience to the Gers side and is just two matches short of 200 league appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Jack has continued to play an important role this season by making 37 appearances, but could miss Aberdeen’s cup final against Celtic due to a groin injury.

Rangers do already have stiff competition for places in the heart of midfield and Jack is likely to compete alongside the likes of Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Niko Kranjcar and Jamie Barjonas.
