Nottingham Forest have handed Chris Cohen a new contract, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.

The Midlands club confirmed on their official website that the 30-year-old midfielder has signed a one-year contract extension at the City Ground.

The Forest club captain has extended his deal with the Championship club and has become a regular since Mark Warburton’s arrival as manager.

Cohen is currently the longest-serving player at Forest and supporters will be delighted that the fan favourite has prolonged his stay.

The central midfielder moved to the club back in 2007 from Yeovil Town and has racked 297 senior appearances, scoring 17 goals and suppling 32 assists in return.

He played an important role in the side at the back-end of the season as they narrowly escaped relegation to League One.

Cohen scored a decisive goal on the final day of the campaign as they defeated Ipswich 3-0 at home to secure their Championship status.

The club will now be looking towards next season and ex-Rangers manager Warburton will be hoping he can create a team that can challenge at the top-end of the league.

They have not been in the Premier League since their relegation in the 1998/99 season and the former European champions would love a return to the top flight.
