Celtic have edged closer in their pursuit of Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim that the 19-year-old has turned down a contract at Stamford Bridge and is certain to leave at the end of the season when he become a free agent.

It is understood that Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing the England Under-21 international and are in a strong position as a potential Liverpool move is in doubt.

The report details that the Premier league giants appeared to have won the race for Solanke, but the Reds are now eyeing alternative attacking options and a move to Anfield is now up in the air.

English sides would have to pay £8million to sign the Chelsea academy graduate, whereas cross-border rules means that Celtic could snap him up at a cut-price sum of just £400,000.

The Bhoys managed to snap up Moussa Dembele in a similar way last season from Fulham and he has gone on to score 32 goals for the Scottish giants.

Solanke is forcing his way out of Chelsea after growing frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities, something that youngster at Stamford Bridge have become used to.

The striker has made just one senior appearance for the Blues in his career, despite being a highly rated youngster in their academy.

He did benefit from a loan spell to feeder club Vitesse last season, when he managed a decent record of 7 goals in 26 games for the top flight club in Holland.

Solanke has been recognised by England’s youth levels for his talents and is desperate for regular first team football to prove himself.
