Rangers target Bruno Alves is expected to reject a move to Ibrox in the summer to stay with Italian club Cagliari, according to a report.

Italian outlet La Nuova Sardegna claim that the experienced 35-year-old defender is not willing to leave his current side Cagliari and is likely to decline a move to Scotland.

The report details that Scottish giants Rangers had asked about the availability of the centre-back as manager Pedro Caixinha tries to remould his squad for next season.

Alves is a highly experienced defender that has racked up 85 appearances for Portugal during this career, scoring 11 goals in return.

The powerful centre-back was part of the squad that won the European Championships in 2016 and would be seen as a steal if the Gers acquired his services.

He completed a move to Italy at the beginning of the season and has been an ever-present in Serie A, despite reaching the latter stages of his career.

Alves has great experience during his time in European football, playing for the likes of Porto, Fenerbache and Zenit, but it does not appear he will add Rangers to that list.

The Gers may be looking for a new centre-back option in the summer as Sky Sports report Clint Hill is set to leave at the end of the season.
