Leeds defender Charlie Taylor is closing in on a move to Premier League club West Brom, according to a report.

The Express and Star claim that the 23-year-old is nearing a switch to the Hawthorns as negotiations near completion.

It is understood that Taylor’s representatives and West Brom are just settling terms before a pre-contract agreement is signed.

The left-back is out-of-contract with Leeds at the end of June after letting his deal at Elland Road expire, meaning he is available for a free transfer.

However, the report details that West Brom will end up paying between £4million and £7million for the defender as compensation because he came through Leeds’ youth system and is still under 24.

Taylor is a product of the Whites academy and has gone on to make 104 senior appearances for the Yorkshire giants.

The left-back was named their player of the season in the 2015/16 campaign and his attacking intent from the full-back area makes him a real asset.

He was pushing for a move to the Premier League last season, but was forced to see out the remaining year of his contract and now looks set to leave his boyhood club on a negative note.

Taylor refused to play the final Championship game of the season against Wigan and Leeds manager Garry Monk claimed he had been “poorly advised”.

West Brom have missed a natural left-back in recent seasons, but believe that Taylor can make the step up in quality to the Premier League.
