Stoke City are planning an end of season move for Sergi Palencia.
According to a report in the Daily Mail the Barcelona defender could be on his way to the Potteries in a £10.3m deal.
Palencia has captained the Barca B side but isn’t looking like bridging the gap into the star studded first team.
The 21-year-old enters the last year of his contract in the summer when the £10.3m buy out clause kicks in.
The report claims that Stoke have been watching the defender for 18 months with Mark Hughes looking to refresh his squad with a much younger age profile.
While Barca can offer Palencia the hope of Champions League football a better prospect of first team football and a higher profile at Stoke could tempt the defender away.
With Glen Johnson and Phil Bardsley both in their thirties Palencia would have a clear run at the right-back position.
