Manchester United and Manchester City have been alerted to Dries Mertens failure to agree a new contract with Napoli.

According to a report on talkSPORT talks about a new deal to stay with the Italian side have stalled after months of talks.

Mertens is under contract until June 2018 meaning that a new agreement will have to be quickly agreed or the Belgian striker will be moved on in the summer.

With 23 goals so far this this season Mertens is one of the top marksmen in Europe with both of the Manchester clubs looking to boost their striking options.

There are major question marks over whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero will still be at their respective clubs next season.

Unless Napoli can get close to the riches on offer in England they look certain to lose out with Mertens and his representatives knowing that his earning capacity is at it’s peak.
