Luke Shaw has salvaged his Manchester United future.

According to a report in the Manchester Evening News Jose Mourinho has abandoned his search for a new left-back in favour of giving the former Southampton defender a run.

Shaw started the weekend draw with Bournemouth after four months out of the side and did enough to convince his gaffer that he is worth another chance.

The 21-year-old has had a chequered career since moving to Old Trafford in 2014 as a teenager.

With a £28m price tag he was expected to be the United and England for a decade to come but quickly fell foul of Louis van Gaal.

Mourinho wanted to take Shaw to Chelsea in 2014 but after a couple of months together at Old Trafford the partnership seemed on the rocks.

If he can regain his place in the United side the full-back will be hoping to impress and play his way into Gareth Southgate’s international plans.
