City keen to get deal struck for Rudiger

Manchester City want to sign Antonio Rudiger.

According to a report in The Mirror the Roma defender is at the top of Pep Guardiola’s list of defenders for next season.

City’s Champions League defeat to Monaco highlighted the need to bring in new defenders with Rudiger fitting the bill perfectly.

The 24-year-old German internationalist is rated as one of the best young defenders in the game with City expecting him to partner John Stones despite being just as comfortable at right-back as he is in central defence.

Roma managed to hold off interest in Rudiger last summer but with City ready to offer £40m and give the player a massive pay lift they’ll struggle to hold on to the former Stuttgart defender.

Guardiola will make wholesale changes to the City defence after losing six goals to the French side and crashing out of the Champions League with no player safe after being taken apart in front of the whole of Europe.
