Amid the usual madness of transfer deadline day one deal was completed relatively quietly that delighted everyone inside Aston Villa.

With just five months left on his current deal Rushian Hepburn-Murphy signed a new contract that will keep him at Villa until 2021.

The 18-year-old was being courted by a number of clubs that could have offered a generous signing on fee with Villa only receiving a token development fee for the years of work put in through his time at the club Academy.

Steve Bruce was aware of the issue as soon as he became Villa boss but has had to deal with more pressing matters involving the first team.

Hepburn-Murphy has made two Championship appearances after making his debut last season and is one of the highest rated prospects to have emerged at the club in recent years.

With a new deal securing his services Bruce is working on a development plan to get the 18-year-old forward experience on loan to accelerate Hepburn-Murphy’s progress into the first team squad.
