Everton are set to boost their scouting operations by focusing on South America.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo chief scout Steve Walsh is keen to exploit a continent rich in talent to bring a stream of players to Goodison.

Everton have got one of the most successful academy systems in the country and are keen to repeat that success elsewhere.

A number of scouts are sweeping across Europe looking for fresh talent but Walsh wants to put a fresh emphasis on South America.

At the moment the top talents in Brazil and Argentina tend to move to Spain and Portugal and then at that stage be transferred to England.

By-passing those stop off’s Walsh is hoping to save Everton money and get players tuned in to English football at an earlier stage.

Work permit issues can be a problem but by identifying the players with European passport links Everton can work around the permit issue.
