Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Goncalo Guedes.
According to a report in The Standard, Arsenal scouts watched the 20-year-old score twice for Benfica in their Cup win over Guimaraes on Tuesday night.
Guedes has been tracked by the Gunners since the start of the season with Arsene Wenger concerned about reports that Paris St Germain were set to put in a £25m bid for the winger.
Depending on the reports that he receives Wenger will decide whether to make a bid or not but any offer will be well short of the £52m release clause in Guedes’ contract.
The Arsenal boss prefers to avoid transfer business in January but may be forced to change his ways as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez stall on new contracts.
Wenger is expected to renew his own contract in March with his interest in Guedes another indication that he is building a team beyond the end of the current season.
