Crystal Palace are in pole position to bring Patrice Evra back to England.

According to a report in the Daily Mail half a dozen clubs have expressed an interest in the 35-year-old who is surplus to requirements at Juventus.

Despite a claim by Rio Ferdinand there is no chance of Evra making an emotional return to Manchester United.

Evra joined Juventus in 2014 after eight seasons at Old Trafford but has been told that he can leave the Turin side with his contract due to expire in the summer.

The French internationalist is keen to continue his career in England and is looking for a short term deal to put himself in the shop window.

Sam Allardyce has still to make a mark in the transfer market and is keen to bring in experienced new faces to ensure that Palace retain their place in the Premier League and build on that for next season.
