Manchester City are expected to step up their interest in Steven N’Zonzi by putting in a bid for the Sevilla midfielder.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the injury to Ilkay Gundogan has forced Pep Guardiola into the transfer market to bolster City’s faltering title bid.

Gundogan suffered cruciate ligament damage at the start of December and has had his season written off.

With Fernandinho starting a four match suspension Guardiola has decided that he needs reinforcements and can’t cope with any more absences from his midfield.

N’Zonzi has a £26m get out fee on his current contract but after an outstanding 18 months that fee looks on the light side.

Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea have been linked to the 28-year-old who was sold by Stoke for £7m in the summer of 2015 but it seems like City’s urgency could push through a return to England for four times the fee paid by Seville.
