Manchester City could turn to Holger Badstuber to solve their defensive problems.

According to a report in The Mirror the Bayern Munich defender is being looked at on a six month loan.

Pep Guardiola knows the 27-year-old well from his stint in charge of Bayern and is looking for a versatile defender to shore up his leaky backline.

Badstuber is equally comfortable in a back three or back four with the City boss still searching for his best defensive set up.

City had hoped to bring in Virgil van Dijk but Southampton appear determined to hold on to the Dutchman through the transfer window.

A bid north of £50m is expected from the Etihad but all the signs from Southampton are that they won’t entertain a January departure.

Badstuber has only made one first team appearance for Bayern this season and would jump at the chance of regular football under his former boss.
