Spurs have made the first move to bring Ross Barkley to White Hart Lane.

According to a report in The Standard Everton have been approached about the availability of the attacking midfielder who has been criticised and dropped by Ronald Koeman.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bring in players to support Harry Kane and sees Barkley as the perfect attacking midfielder to ease the scoring burden from the England striker.

A year ago Everton would have refused to consider selling the 23-year-old but with a change of management style and 18 months left on Barkley’s contract they may be prepared to listen to offers.

Everton would be looking for a fee of at least £35m for the midfielder who emerged from their own academy set up but who has failed to develop in the way that was anticipated when he made his breakthrough.

With his international career stalling Barkley may see a move to London as the chance to impress Gareth Southgate and return to the England side.
