Payet won’t rule out a return to Marseilles

Dimitri Payet hasn’t ruled out a surprise return to Marseilles.

Manchester United are believed to be very keen on the West Ham star but according to a report in The Mirror a return to Marseilles can’t be ruled out.

Payet left the French side in July 2015 and had an incredible debut season with the Hammers who handed him a new contract in February.

After starring at Euro 16 the 29-year-old was linked with a number of big name clubs but has struggled to recapture his form.

Asked about the possibility of returning to Marseilles Payet told SFR Sport in France: “I am not closing the door to anything.”

Jose Mourinho has been credited with a strong interest in Payet and could put a bid on the table next month to tempt West Ham who are looking to strengthen in all areas.

It’s highly doubtful if Marseilles could raise the finance for a transfer fee and wages but by discussing the option it’s clearly something in the players mind.
