Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head to sign Roma defender Antonio Rudiger.

According to a report in The Sun the Italian side are considering selling the German international defender to meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Roma have put Kosta Manolas on the transfer list but interest is said to be stone dead in the £13m rated Greek defender.

In order to meet UEFA demands on FFP Roma need to sell someone in January with Rudiger their most saleable asset although the Serie A side are likely to explore other options before selling their star defender.

The Italian side would be reluctant sellers but could expect offers in the region of £30m for the 23-year-old who missed Euro 16 due to injury.

Manchester United and Chelsea will both be big spenders in January with the battle to sign Rudiger coming at the same time as both clubs are lining up bids for James Rodriguez of Real Madrid.
