After the despair of drawing 2-2 at home to Paris St Germain it was all right on the night in Switzerland- and France- as Arsenal beat Basel 4-1 to finish on top of Group A with 14 points from 18.
By topping their group the Gunners will be drawn against a runners-up in the last 16 giving them a far better chance of progress.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid/Borussia Dortmund are the teams to avoid but coming out of the draw with Porto, Benfica or Seville should give Arsene Wenger’s side a decent chance of progress.
While the Gunners were on the goal trail in Switzerland a big thank-you is owed to Ludogorets who didn’t take the huff from their 6-0 hammering at The Emirates.
The Bulgarians led twice before losing a stoppage time equaliser but after drawing twice with Basel that point was enough to lift them off bottom place and into the Europa League- and the hearts of the Arsenal faithful!
