Linked with a January loan switch to Leeds United of late, West Ham United’s Ashley Fletcher won’t be going anywhere if the Hammers fail to recruit a new striker, report The Sun.

Part of the Barnsley squad promoted to the Championship last season, Garry Monk’s Whites have been keen on adding Fletcher as competition for Chris Wood.

However, a West Yorkshire switch is now dependant on the Hammers’ own transfer movements with the poor form of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri meaning Fletcher has grown used to second-half cameos of late.

Coming on as a sub in Slaven Bilic’s sides’ 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the weekend, Fletcher is receiving Premier League opportunities right now, albeit not from the start.

The report carried quotes from a West Ham United source who claimed: “We can’t even think about it until that time as we obviously don’t know what our injury situation is likely to be.

“And of course, with the African Nations Cup, the earliest we would do anything would be January 31.”

Currently sixth in the Championship table, Garry Monk may now be forced to draw up a list of alternative plan B strikers given the Hammers’ stance on Fletcher.
