Tottenham are out of the Champions League after crashing to a 2-1 defeat away to Monaco.

A Harry Kane penalty in-between goals from Djibril Aidibe and Thomas Lemar put paid to Spurs’ hopes with all three goals coming in a five minute burst at the start of the season half.

Despite Bayer Leverkusen being held to a 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow the German side’s head to head with Spurs mean that they can’t be overtaken even if both clubs finish the group with seven points.

In their final group match at Wembley against CSKA Moscow Spurs require a draw to secure third place although a Europa League place and Thursday/Sunday fixtures won’t appeal to Mauricio Pochettino and his Premier League ambitions.

Tonight’s defeat was the third loss in five matches for Spurs with only a 1-0 win away to CSKA Moscow and a 0-0 draw away to Leverkusen breaking that depressing sequence.
