He was being scouted by Liverpool but now Manchester United have joined their rivals in monitoring the progress of Vancouver Whitecaps striker Alphonso Davies, report Metro.

The 15-year-old has remarkably already made his Major League Soccer debut for the Canadian side despite his slender years and holds the record for being the first player born in the 2000’s to contest an MLS fixture.

Beating the youngest league debutant record that was previously held by Freddy Adu – once taken on trial by United – Davies has racked up fifteen appearances for Carl Robinson’s Whitecaps to date, scoring one goal in the process.

According to a fellow report from The Sun, Manchester United’s American-based scout Jorge Alvial watched Davies in the Whitecaps’ 2-1 defeat to Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders recently.

Expected to remain in Major League Soccer during this vital period for his development, any transfer in the near future wouldn’t come without complications.

After all, the Liberian-born Davies is yet to receive a Canadian passport and with the North American nation down at 103 in the FIFA world rankings right now, a work permit would also prove difficult to attain.
