He’s previously been mentioned as a January transfer window target for Chelsea but Inter Milan could hijack a deal to sign Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian, report Sport Witness.

According to Italian publication Passione Inter, Darmian is a priority signing for Frank de Boer’s Inter in January with this fact complicating Chelsea’s intentions.

The Italian international is currently outcast at Old Trafford and Antonio Conte is believed to be keen on signing the 26-year-old as an alternative to the ageing Branislav Ivanovic.

However, it is Inter who appear to be making more of a firm move for Darmian having sent scouts to watch the former Torino man in Manchester United’s Europa League fixture against Zorya Luhansk last week despite not playing.

The question that remains is whether Jose Mourinho would sell to a direct Premier League rival with the Portuguese boss having made his feelings clear on that matter previously.

Conte managed Darmian during his years in charge of the Italian national side of course and with Cesar Azpilicueta having reverted to right back for the Blues’ game at Hull City last time out, it appears Ivanovic’s poor form is a clear concern.
