He was a £21 million target for Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion in the summer but now, Manchester United are prioritising a January swoop for William Carvalho according to Manchester Evening News.

Part of the Sporting Lisbon starting eleven that nearly pulled off a shock result at Real Madrid in the Champions League last night, Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on adding his fellow countryman to the Red Devils’ ranks.

Having long been linked with a switch to the Premier League with Arsenal having been frequently mentioned as a rumoured destination, 24-year-old Carvalho now also boasts the experience of having won Euro 2016 in the summer.

Manchester United are currently blessed with several central midfield options, what with Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini on their roster but the jury is very much out on the latter players’ ability amidst Red Devils circles.

Manchester Evening News’ report also claims that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on Juventus’ young 18-year-old Cypriot striker Grigoris Kastanos.

Also a target of Everton, Kastanos is a member of the Bianconeri’s youth ranks but does boast two senior international caps with Cyprus.
