Despite being involved in Champions League action on Tuesday, Arsenal scouts were simultaneously deployed at Benfica’s game with Besiktas to check on Goncalo Guedes, according to Bleacher Report via Tom Kundert.

The 19-year-old Portuguese international had previously been interesting Arsenal in the summer transfer window and it appears Arsene Wenger’s side are still extremely keen on the winger.

In a game that finished 1-1 with Besiktas’ Anderson Talisca controversially scoring a stoppage time equaliser against the club he is currently on loan from, Guedes completed the full 90 minutes.

It has been a rapid rise to prominence for Guedes over the past few seasons with the Benavente native having made his first appearance for Benfica’s first team in October 2014.

Receiving plenty of chances alongside another darling of the Benfica academy in the form of Renato Sanches under Rui Vitória last term, Guedes is similarly destined for bigger things with Sanches now at Bayern Munich of course.

Drawing comparisons with none other than Cristiano Ronaldo in his playing style, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will formalise their interest in the next couple of transfer windows.
