Tottenham star refuses to rule out La Liga return

|

He scored in Tottenham’s 1-2 defeat to Monaco in the Champions League last night but Toby Alderweireld has refused to rule out a La Liga return at some point, report HITC.

Reiterating that he is happy at White Hart Lane right now after quickly becoming a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad since signing in 2015, a Spanish return still seems to appeal.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca about a future return, Alderweireld claimed: “You never know. I enjoyed my time at Atletico. I became a better player but the Premier League is fantastic and I’m happy here.”

Alderweireld’s comments could be conceived to mean he has unfinished business in the Spanish top flight having only made 12 appearances for Atletico Madrid following a £6.16 million transfer from Ajax in September 2013.

Unfavoured by Diego Simeone in Atletico’s title winning season of 2013/14, Alderweireld spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Southampton which ultimately paved the way for him to join Spurs for £11.5 million last year.

Considering Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal were forced to fork out £35 million for Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi in an over-inflated market this summer, £11.5 million for a defender of Alderweireld’s class looks a snip.
