According to reports from The Express and Here Is The City, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could replace under-fire Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren.

The Magpies are second-bottom in the Premier League after losing to Stoke City in midweek and have picked up just seven points from their last ten league fixtures. A number of sources, including The Daily Mail, claim McClaren is expected to be relieved of his duties if Newcastle lose to relegation rivals Bournemouth on Saturday.

Should that be the case, Here Is The City allege the Tynesiders could appoint former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez to save their season, potentially on a short-term deal. The Spaniard, who was sacked by Real Madrid in January, resides in England and wants another job in the Premier League but is unlikely to be offered one by the division’s top clubs.

On the other hand, The Express – who cite reports from the printed edition of The Daily Mail – allege Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini could take the St. James’ Park hot seat at the end of the season.

It was revealed in February that he’ll step down in the summer to make way for Pep Guardiola and the Chilean’s agent recently revealed that he’s open to working with another Premier League club. However, the Magpies may have to act quickly, amid rumours Zenit St. Petersburg have already approached the veteran tactician with a two-year contract offer.
