According to reports from The Sun, Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona are all targeting Danubio FC prodigy Joaquin Ardaiz.

Danubio have seen some of Uruguay’s greatest talents pass through their doors – most notably Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani who were both part of the squad that reached a World Cup semi-final in 2010 – but Ardaiz is being compared to an alternative Charruas favourite.

Indeed, the 16-year-old has been dubbed ‘the new Luis Suarez’, sharing attacking flair, the same nationality and even the same hometown, Salto, with the 27-year-old striker.

According to The Sun, he’s been attracting interest from Liverpool and Barcelona (coincidentally, Suarez’ last two clubs) for some time.

But Manchester City are also emerging as a fixture in the race for the in-demand teenager’s signature and plan to send scouts to run the rule over him when the Uruguayan season kicks off later this month.

Meanwhile, the Citizens face Leicester City in a potential Premier League title-decider at 12.45pm tomorrow, whilst Liverpool play hosts to Sunderland at 3pm.
