Transfer News: La Liga outfit raise funds to seal summer swoop for unsettled Chelsea ace

Diego Costa

According to reports from Marca, Atletico Madrid will use the funds from Jackson Martinez’ shock move to China to launch a summer swoop for Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

The Colombian international arrived in the Spanish capital from FC Porto last summer but after netting just three times in all competitions during the first half of the season was sold to Guangzhou Evergrande in a €42million deal earlier this week.

And according to Spanish publication Marca, the Mattress Makers will use that considerable sum to try and sign former striker Diego Costa at the end of the season – who they sold to Chelsea back in summer 2014 after firing them to a La Liga title and a Champions League final.

The Daily Mail claim the Spain international has never quite settled in west London and often tells former team-mates that he’d like to return to Vincente Calderon. It’s by no means an improbable scenario, considering the volatile target man has been at the epicentre of Chelsea’s miraculous fall from grace this season.
