Gonzalo Higuain

According to reports from The Express, Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has revealed a five-minute conversation with manager Maurizio Sarri convinced him to snub interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Argentina international has been enjoying incredible form in front of goal this season, netting the most league goals of any player involved in Europe’s five leading top flights with 22 in as many Serie A appearances.

Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool were all credited with interest in the 28-year-old last summer and again during the build-up to the January transfer window, forcing the Naples outfit to insist any potential suitor would have to meet their £76million valuation to sign him midseason.

But according to The Express, a brief conversation with manager Maurizio Sarri – lasting just five minutes – was all the former Real Madrid star needed to convince him to stay put at Stadio San Paolo for the remainder of the campaign.

He recently told Serie A’s official TV channel; “Sarri? He convinced me with his sincerity. It took five minutes for him to convince me to stay, and he got the best out of me. So far this has been the best year of my career, but we have to be perfect to win. It’s hard to top the record of 35 goals in a Serie A season, but I hope I can make it.”
