John Terry

According to The Guardian, manager Guus Hiddink has revealed John Terry could still be offered a new deal at Chelsea; whilst Goal report that Yassin Fortune has signed professional terms at Arsenal.

After a 5-1 win over MK Dons in the FA Cup’s fourth round on Sunday, the Blues captain made the shock announcement that he expects to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season – as reported by BBC Sport.

But a club spokesman quickly insisted no final decision on the 35-year-old’s future had been made, telling reporters; “John was advised that while no new deal was currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months,” and manager Guus Hiddink reiterated that stance at today’s press conference.

As quoted by The Guardian, he said; “It was a bit surprising, but he’s entitled to do what he did. I like John very much, the way he’s playing and that he’s committed to the team, and will continue to be like that. We’ve had conversations in the last few days about all kinds of things in football, and I know he will continue playing at the level he has been.

“John is entitled to make up his mind, that’s true, given his contract expires at the end of the season. But, on the other hand, the club still want to have the dialogue and to have an open door still. No specific decision was made yet [by Chelsea]. You have to see what’s coming up with the transition of the new manager as well. So the door is not shut and dialogue is always possible.”

Meanwhile, Goal report that youngster Yassin Fortune has signed a professional contract at Arsenal.

The 17-year-old move to the Emirates last summer from Lens in a £3million deal that also included Jeff Reine-Adelaide. The latter made his debut for the Gunners last month, featuring from the bench in an FA Cup win over Sunderland.

Fortune, meanwhile, is progressing well within the academy ranks. He’s scored seven times in 15 appearances for Arsenal’s U18 squad this season and featured once for their U21 side. The teenage forward is rated as one of the club’s most exciting prospects and has now agreed a professional contract – the duration of which is yet to be revealed.
