According to reports from The Express, Manchester United are preparing a £35million transfer swoop for PSG striker and long-term Arsenal target Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international boasts 70 goals in 127 appearances for the Parisians, helping fire them to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles, but his Parc de Princes tenure looks set to come to an end during the summer transfer window.

The 6-foot striker is verging on the final two years of his contract and manager Laurent Blanc not-so-subtly hinted last month that he’d be prepared to move Cavani on. He told reporters; “There is a problem with Cavani’s behaviour but my job is to think of the entire squad as a collective. I believe that he can score here but I understand if he wants to consider other career opportunities.”

Arsenal are known admirers of the 29-year-old and came close to signing him last summer, so his potential availability at the end of the season will certainly be of interest to the north London outfit – especially considering their need for a dependable alternative to Olivier Giroud.

But according to The Express, who cite reports from ITASportPress, it’s Manchester United who are now preparing a £35million summer swoop for the South American. The Red Devils are in need of added firepower as well, having scored the fewest goals of any side in the Premier League’s top eight this season.
