Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Manchester United are ‘closing in’ on a £70million deal for Arsenal strike target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Borussia Dortmund frontman has netted 27 times across all competitions this season – including a potent return of 20 goals in as many Bundesliga appearances – and looks set to enter the summer transfer window as one of the Premier League’s most-wanted foreign stars.

Indeed, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United were all linked with the Gabon international during the January transfer window until he ruled out a mid-season departure and the Gunners’ interest was documented once again this weekend by The Telegraph.

But according to The Daily Mail, it’s the Red Devils who are ‘closing in’ on what would be a PL-record £70million deal for the 26-year-old forward.

Despite recent uplifts in form from strikers Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, United have scored the fewest goals of any side in the Premier League’s top eight this term and desperately require added firepower for next season.

The British tabloid report that the Old Trafford outfit have a cash reserve of £121million and along with Aubameyang, Neymar, Gareth Bale and Robert Lewandowski will likely be targeted during the summer – regardless of whether Louis van Gaal is still their manager.
