According to reports from The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool face competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez. 

The former Manchester United super-sub reached double figures in the Premier League’s scoring charts for three consecutive seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson, but struggled for form under David Moyes and was sold by Louis van Gaal last summer following a year-long loan at Real Madrid.

Chicarito has flourished since his £7.3million move to the Bay Arena, however, finding the net 21 times across all competitions this season – including five strikes in the Champions League – and claiming the Bundesliga’s Player of the Month award for November.

He was linked with a shock return to the Premier League during the January transfer window and according to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool and Arsenal still maintain an interest in signing the 27-year-old striker.

However, according to Goal – who cite Spanish outlet Fichajes – Bayern Munich are also a fixture in the race to sign the Mexico international. Carlo Ancelotti is set to take the Allianz Arena hot seat next season and reportedly wants to re-sign Hernandez, who he managed during his aforementioned loan spell at Real Madrid.
