Jamie Vardy

According to The Daily Star, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy; whilst The Metro report that Chelsea are targeting Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour.

Amid his unexpected rise to the top of the Premier League’s scoring charts, with 15 goals and three assists in 22 appearances, a number of top English clubs have been linked with Vardy this season – including Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

But in a Daily Star exclusive, the British tabloid claim that Liverpool are leading the race for the 29-year-old’s signature ahead of a potential £25million swoop next summer.

They quote an unnamed source as saying; “Vardy is the right fit for Liverpool. He would suit their high-intensity game under Klopp, he runs the channels and he’s now demonstrated his goalscoring ability at the highest level.

“As a result of his success this season, all the big clubs are looking at him. But Liverpool look to be the favourites – if he decides to leave Leicester.”

Meanwhile, The Metro – who cite Italian publication Foot Mercato – report that Chelsea have been put on alert by the potential availability of Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour.

The Morocco international was on the radars of several Premier League clubs during the summer as his impressive spell at Monaco came to a close but eventually opted for a Mestalla move instead.

The 26-year-old has floated in and out of a Valencia side languishing in mid-table this season, however – making eleven appearances out of a possible 20 in La Liga – and the Blues are reportedly interested in signing him this month.
