According to reports from The Metro, Arsenal and Chelsea are set to scrap it out over the services of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland international has been in fine form for Gladbach this season, netting three times in 15 Bundesliga appearances whilst averaging 2.3 tackles, 3.1 interceptions and a whopping 81 successful passes per match.
Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with the 23-year-old over the last few months, with the latter club reportedly preparing a club-record £37million bid.
But the latest reports from The Metro, which cite German publication Bild, suggest the Gunners and London rivals Chelsea are set to scrap it out over Xhaka’s signature.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the deep-lying playmaker, who was once dubbed ‘young Schweinsteiger’ by former Switzerland and Bavarians boss Ottmar Hitzfeld.
The report follows recent comments from Gladbach director of football Max Eberl, who The Daily Mail quote as saying; “It depends a bit on our own sporting success, it depends on Granit’s own performances and of course it depends on the figures.
“If they reach a certain dimension, then you could get dizzy. There are always situations in which every club would have to make considerations.”
Recently appointed Gladbach skipper, however, it seems unlikely the German outfit will sell Xhaka this month.
