According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez has dismissed reports linking him with a January move to Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22-year-old moved to St. James’ Park in summer 2014 after bagging 17 goals in 50 league appearances for Tenerife – allegedly snubbing interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in the process.
He’s gone on to net ten times in 48 Premier League appearances, including three goals this season, and earn a reputation as one of the most exciting strike prospects in the division.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the Spaniard this season, with the latter two clubs believed to be particularly interested in a potential January move. The Red Devils have reportedly compiled a dossier on the Toon prodigy, whilst Spurs are in desperate need of an understudy to first-choice striker Harry Kane.
But according to The Daily Mail, Perez has insisted that he’s more than happy on Tyneside, effectively ruling out a midseason switch to one of the Premier League’s bigger clubs. When asked about his plans for the rest of the campaign, he replied; “I am happy here. I am playing and I am getting better. I cannot ask for anything else because I am happy here.”
The 5 foot 10 forward continued; “I hope one day I can play for Spain, it will be a dream for me. But I will have to work hard because I am still young. I have a lot to do to achieve that dream. Things have gone very well for me at Newcastle so far and I am really happy to get my award. It is a big pleasure for me. If I get this, it is because I have done something well.”
