As confirmed by Sky Sports News on Twitter, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been appointed as head coach of Valencia until the end of the season.

The retired defender, who made 602 appearances across all competitions during a glistening Red Devils career that saw him lift eight Premier League titles and two Champions League titles, has attempted both punditry and coaching since hanging up his boots.

Indeed, the 40-year-old is one of Sky Sports’ flagship pundits, his Monday Night Football instalments with Liverpool counterpart Jamie Carragher proving immensely popular, and is also part of Roy Hodgson’s coaching team for the England squad.

And it appears Neville has now tipped his toe deeper into managerial waters, taking over at La Liga outfit Valencia.

Curiously, younger brother Phillip Neville, also a Manchester United favourite, was appointed assistant manager on an interim basis at the Mestalla last week following the sacking of Nuno Santo. He originally joined Los Che as a coach in the summer.

It is unknown whether Gary Neville will work alongside his brother or decide to relinquish him from his duties. More to follow.
