According to reports from The Chronicle, Newcastle United could swoop for two Arsenal players during the January transfer window – Mathieu Debuchy and Joel Campbell.

Debuchy is already well-known to the Toon Army, having made 43 Premier League appearances for the Magpies before joining the Emirates ranks in summer 2014.

The combination of multiple injuries and the unexpected rise of Hector Bellerin has seen the France international make just 22 appearances for the Gunners in the space of 18 months and he’s now desperate to secure more consistent game-time ahead of Euro 2016.

He recently told the French media; “I need to have several games under my belt to be at the Euros. You can’t be in the French squad if you play a game once a month or less than that. You can’t be fit, and can’t be mentally focused. And if I have to leave permanently or on loan to play, I will.”

Likewise, although Joel Campbell has proved expedient for Arsenal in recent weeks, claiming two goals and two assists from 10 outings in the Premier League and Champions League combined, the Costa Rica international’s Emirates future remains in serious doubt with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The January window represents the Gunners’ last chance to cash-in and Newcastle are known to have taken an interest in the 23-year-old previously. The Magpies could capitalise on the chance to sign the youngster and their former defender on the cheap in January.

Never going to happen, 1) Debuchy’s to old, 2) he’d be second choice behind Janmat, 3) he’s not that good a defender. NUFC need some pace in their back line, not a 30 year old whose only going to get slower. As far Campbell, he’s just starting to come good for Arsenal (did you see the Olympiakos game). Once their other players are fit and he’s sitting on the bench again, he may want to leave but at the moment he’s playing games…
